Philip Flower received his Master’s Degree in photography at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque where he studied with Beaumont Newhall, Van Deren Coke, Thomas F Barrow and Betty Hahn.

He was Assistant to Beaumont Newhall, author of the classic ‘History of Photography’ and the founder of the Photography Department at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and also to Van Deren Coke, photographer and author of ‘The Painter and the Photograph’.

Recruited by Gus MacDonald at Granada Television for ‘Camera’, a major series on the history of photography, he went on to produce and direct TV documentaries for the BBC and Channel 4.
